Northern Lights’ Trailer

The blog post ‘Northern Lights’ Trailer’ below was written just over 10 years ago on the 11th of October 2007 on my now deleted Bebo Account. When I copied this post across to my new website, of course, I forgot include a link to the actually trailer. So the trailer below is one I’ve taken off Youtube tonight but my comments could easily have described the trailer below as the original one I wrote about.

Northern Lights TrailerThis evening I have just posted up the New Official Trailer for Northern Lights (I refuse to use the American name for a British book…but that is for a separate blog!)

First of all, I think it looks great. None of the actors (from what can be seen in the trailer) look like they are in the wrong movie…always a good sign! Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, the daemons (spelt sort of wrongly cos I don’t know how to find the correct character) fit into the film and aren’t just walking special effects. Plus the film as a nice epic feel to it. Should look amazing on the big screen!

My only major worry (that is ignoring my issues with the title) is the lack of the word “religion” in the trailer. For those of you who don’t know the book, the organisation the Nicole Kidman’s character works for – Magisterium – is in fact an organisation working for the Church. It is that final bit of information that worries me the most. While it could just be deemed that such information isn’t needed it the trailer, it could have been removed in case it offend anyone.

While i’m normally against offending people just for the sake of it, I’m worried in this case. In the second, and especially, the third books religion plays an important role (whether it is a good or bad role is up for debate…and again a different blog!) I just pray that Hollywood hasn’t decided to remove religion just to sell movies and so destroy the plot of the later films. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
