Six Word Stories and Accidentally Writing

Six Word Stories and Accidentally WritingThe last meeting of West Lothian Writers happened to be on the same as Ernest Hemingway‘s 116th birthday and to celebrate everyone was asked to write their own Six Word Stories as, if you believe the legend, Hemingway‘s invented the format with his tale

For Sale: baby shoes, never worn

Of course I wrote some six worders (while I wait for my train to Livingston) which can either be found here on the WLW website or below the break.

Forest of Cloth – Author’s Notes

Forest of Cloth - Author's NotesI’ve been meaning to write this post for a while but life keeps getting in the way. Way back in July 2014 I had my story Forest of Cloth published in [untitled] IV. The story was the first story I wrote when I returned to West Lothian Writers (WLW) in January 2009.

Below you will find my thoughts and ideas behind the story and how it all came about. Of course this means there will be spoilers from this point on! You have been warned!

Another What have I Been Up To Post

As you may have noticed I haven’t been posting much on here recently. This has been down to a number of things (mostly good stuff!) however, I now have more time so there will be more posts coming. However, let’s go over what I’ve been up to while I was away.

Revamping This Website

Another What have I Been Up To PostThe changes aren’t huge but I’ve been re-ordering What I Have Written Page into two new pages. One for My Short Stories and one for my Movie and TV Reviews, which splits down into years while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Doctor Who and Homeland all have their own pages as I have written so many reviews on them. Check them and let me know what you think of them in the comments below.

I’ve also been busy writing new reviews for Culture Jam with six already published so far this year and another four (at the time of writing) waiting to be published. To read my reviews so far check out the 2014 TV and Movies Reviews page.

Picture inspiration for A Mother's Love?

Last week The Puffin Review published my short story A Mother’s Love? and as I promised here is my author’s note on the story.

A Mother’s Love? started life as a writing exercise on 12th of July 2012 at West Lothian Writers (WLW), the writing group I attend. Chris, one of the members of the group had brought along five pictures to act as inspiration for a story. Of the five I choose the one above and five minutes later I had the first draft of A Mother’s Love? which can be seen below:
